summary:
The government has decided to decrease the number of living allowances for disabled people. Ministers want to perform medical and psychological tests on people with the allowance, to find out if there are people who lie about their handicap to get one.
Scope, a charity for disabled people, which presented the survey, says that the government’s plans have led to more resentment towards people with a disability.
A lot of invalid people have experienced hostile comments and sometimes even violence from people they don’t even know. Disabled people feel like they are being questioned if they really need a living allowance and accuse the ministers for making them look like liars.
reaction:
I think the goverment is right to investigate if there are people with a living allowance, who don't really need it and can go to work. However, I think it is very severe that disabled people are being treated with hostility and are even physically attacked. Just because the government wants to run tests to see if there are people who cheat on the system, doesn't mean that all people with a living allowance are not really disabled and don't really need it. Maybe the government should say this as well, to give a message to the people to stop questioning the handicap of people with a living allowance.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenI like your summary about the article, it is a clear summary with less grammar mistakes.
I agree with the government to check whether people have the right of getting an allowance, because there are people who take advantage of it. On the other hand, it is not very polite to the people who really are disabled and have to prove that they are disabled. You only remind them with the fact they are disabled, which is already sad enough. I think it will be very depressing for these people.
Liselotte! I like your summary and your reaction although you made some mistakes in both. In your summary it says 'disapled' I think you mean 'disabled'. you also say in your reaction: "who don't really need and go to work" I think you should add a word or phrase it different. You also say: "Just because the government wants to run test to see if there...."you should say: tests, or a test.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI do agree with you and I think that the government handled it the wrong way!
Hi Liselotte! When you talked about this article in your Speaker's Corner, I already found it very interesting. You gave a broad and clear summary and a strong opinion in this blog. I very much agree with you. Because of all those tests, people who are really disabled will be questioned by the community and that is not fair. Good job!
