summary:
A man of sixty years old has claimed to have seen a man-eater shark off the coast of Cornwall . He said that when he was fishing, he looked over the side of his boat and the shark slammed into it and rose a foot above the surface. The man told to other people on a boat, before he went to the coast to report what he saw, and they now claim they have seen the shark as well. Cornwall is a popular place for tourists and authorities have told tourists to stay calm, as the shark has not been seen since the fisherman had reported the sight of the shark. Specialists say it is very unlikely for the shark to appear at this coast because the water is too cold. Maybe the man has seen a basking shark, which does live in Cornish waters.
reaction:
I think that people should be very careful with spreading rumours about a shark, because I think a lot of people have seen the film ‘Jaws’ and they would not get in the water if there was a man- eating shark. Furthermore, if all the tourists would stay away than the city would run out of a lot of profit. I think it is good that the authorities have calmed the people down and that specialists have said it is very unlikely for the shark to be swimming in Cornish waters. However, as long as the rumours are there, I think some people (people like me) stay out of the water.
Lies!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI also made a blog about this subject! hehe, I thought it was a nice story. I agree with you, I have almost the same reaction. I do think you used a wrong word for the shark, 'man-eater' I think a better word would be: 'white-tip'
and what do you mean with: "and rose as foot above the surface"?
The summary is clear and so is your reaction, nice story!!;)
Hi Miranda,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIn the article itself the author used the word man- eating shark as well, so I think you can use that word to indicate to the shark too.
Thank you for your reaction!
Nice article because I love sharks. It sounds weird but I think they are magnificant, beautiful and interesting creatures. Of course I saw Jaws several times and I understand that people became frightened of the water, but Jaws is a really unrealistic image about how sharks really behave. Nevertheless, I do agree with your opinion that it frightens you to go in the water if there is the possibility of a shark. The only grammar 'mistake' I could find is in the sentence "and they would not get in the water, I think it must be and they would net get into the water.. But you did a nice job
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHi Liselotte! Interesting blog! I think man-eating sharks are really fascinating, I watch the National Geographic shows all the time, but I would really not want to meet a shark like that in real life! I agree with you saying that you should be careful with spreading rumors about sharks. I do not like swimming anyway but now I will definitely not go swimming in the sea if I ever visit Cornwall!
